U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito from West Virginia, a key figure on the Senate Appropriations Committee, expressed satisfaction with the Senate's approval of legislation containing bill text for six Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) appropriations divisions. In a statement released following the Senate's decision, Senator Capito emphasized the importance of funding the government and the significance of avoiding a partial government shutdown.

Senator Capito highlighted the diverse scope of the legislation, stating, "The scope of this package is broad, from ensuring care for our veterans to enhancing and expanding our roads and airports in West Virginia." She also noted that the bills encompass funding for law enforcement at various levels, including federal, state, and local, as well as provisions for the Violence Against Women Act and rural development grants to address housing, broadband, and infrastructure challenges.

As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Senator Capito took pride in ensuring that West Virginia priorities were incorporated into the bills. She expressed optimism about the upcoming completion of the remaining bills to finalize the FY24 budget process.

The legislation approved by the Senate includes bill text for several key areas such as Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, Commerce, Justice, Science, Energy and Water Development, Interior, Environment, Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development. Six additional bills are expected to be addressed by the Senate to conclude the FY24 budget process.

The legislation also encompasses numerous Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) projects, which Senator Capito personally authored in consultation with entities and organizations across West Virginia.
